Sharing data contained in electronic health records with patients offers a number of benefits, according  to a recent study in the Journal of Medical Internet Research . Patient access to  health data contained in an EHR system has been a hotly debated topic recently so it’s interesting that some researchers, from the Veteran’s Administration and elsewhere, have tried to determine what patients actually experienced when they had such access by studying the My HealthVet EHR access pilot program. The My Health e Vet Pilot, the initial personal health record of the US Department of Veterans Affairs, allowed patients and their delegates to view and download content contained in their electronic health record, including clinical notes, laboratory tests, and imaging reports.
